Whom is health insurance for?

Health insurance is primarily intended for foreigners who are staying in Estonia on the basis of a visa or without a visa, or who are applying for a temporary residence permit and need health insurance required by law. It is a simple and affordable insurance solution that helps in case of illness or accidents.

Where and for how long is the insurance coverage valid?

The insurance cover is valid in the territory of Estonia during the period specified in the policy.

What does the foreigner’s health insurance cover?

If you fall ill or have an accident while in Estonia, we will compensate you for unavoidable medical care. Health insurance compensates, among other things, the costs related to an unexpected illness, exacerbation of a chronic disease, or an accident, as well as the costs of inpatient and outpatient medical care, unavoidable medical transport and repartition. We also reimburse expenses for necessary medications prescribed by a doctor in the extent of the sum insured.

What is compensated in case of illness?

Illness is an unexpected health disorder, the primary symptoms of which appear while being in Estonia during the policy validity period and which require unavoidable medical attention. Under this insurance, we cover expenses incurred for medical services and medical transport which are necessary in the event of a sudden deterioration in the state of health, the absence of which endangers the life of the insured person, causes serious disturbances in the functioning of the body, or malfunctions of some organs.

What is compensated in the event of an accident?

An accident is considered an unexpected event independent of the insured person’s will and caused by external influences (bodily injury, heat stroke, freezing, poisoning caused by gas or other substances accidentally entering the body), as a result of which the person’s physical condition deteriorates sharply. In this case, we reimburse the reasonable and unavoidable expenses incurred to ensure treatment. In the event of the death of the insured person, we will also compensate the costs of cremating the body in the extent of the sum insured.

Is a deductible applied in the event of damages?

Yes, a deductible is applied in the event of damage. In case of the Flex package, it is EUR 50, and in case of the Max package, it is 5% of the damage.

Who can buy insurance?

Any person who is interested in buying insurance can be a policyholder. The insurance contract can be used to insure persons who stay in Estonia on the basis of a residence permit or visa and whose permanent residence is outside the Republic of Estonia and the European Union.

How is the insurance premium calculated?

The amount of the insurance premium depends on several factors that affect the insured risk. For example, it may depend on whether it is a one-time or repeated trip, what is the insurance area or insurance period, as well as the age of the insured person and the extent of protection.

What to do if you get sick or have an accident while travelling?

Consult a doctor as soon as possible and be sure to ask for a medical history with the diagnosis and prescribed treatment. Keep all expense documents to submit to the insurance later. Report the incident to us on the website or by calling +372 641 0436 24/7.

How can you terminate the insurance contract?

By agreement of the parties, the insurance contract can be terminated at any time before the end of the insurance period. To do so, send an application to the e-mail address elama@elama.ee. Be sure to add the name and current account number of the recipient of the already paid insurance premium. If you do not indicate the end date of the insurance contract on the application, we will terminate the contract the day after receiving your application. The insurance contract cannot be terminated retroactively.
